Mike Piero’s short story, “The Keeper of Numbers,” appeared in J Journal: New Writing on Justice, a publication of CUNY’s John Jay College of Criminal Justice. In a story the editors described as “poor Gregor Samsa meeting Dostoevsky’s underground man,” a college employee who reconciles dining receipts and reads philosophy in his spare time decides to record all of his thoughts before he dies.
