🎮🎮 Well, it’s been an incredible inaugural season for Cuyahoga Community College’s esports team! 54 NJCAA Esports matches across seven game titles, 175 individual NJCAAE games played, and one team—our Marvel Rivals team—that ended up undefeated and ranked #3 in the D3 (Engage) league out of 45 teams. I couldn’t be more proud of this group of 25 dedicated student athletes, including Tyler Richard, Ashley Sherry, Alundis Hayes, Jack Austin II, Xavier Granville, Finley Wigmore, Dezhae Foreman, Andrew Faitz, and everyone else! And beyond the wins, this team rallied around one another to establish a healthy, supportive, and inclusive culture for the team. I saw players help one another out, teach each other, assist with growing this new program, and show grace and patience to each other and their competitors. I always witnessed an immense amount of talent, hard work, and persistence. The communication, strategic thinking, and technical skills needed to compete at this level is impressive! Thank you as well to our players who served in additional non-playing roles including IT roles, Discord Mgr (Nick Munford), design, jersey design working group, photography, recruiting, and more! You all helped make this possible, along with too many folks at the College to list here.

Great things lie ahead for the esports team next academic year, including getting into DI/DII play, starting to stream games on Twitch, and the opening of our Esports Center, to name just a few! It’s been my privilege to help establish this team at the College, and I look forward to supporting the team in various ways throughout the year.
